Are you fatigued and "running on empty?"
To test the status of your adrenal glands, Neuro-Science Laboratories has developed a precise take-home kit with simple instructions to perform the test and mail it directly to the lab. The results will be sent to you (approximately 3 weeks) so that you may review them with your doctor and, together, determine how best to proceed. It is important to understand that you really shouldn't consider adrenal self-testing until other causes of fatigue (like anemia or under active thyroid) have been checked for by your doctor.
Dr. Edelberg's comment: "Fatigue" is the most common complaint primary care doctors hear and although they'll routinely check for anemia or underactive thyroid, they rarely check the adrenal glands. This is because the concept of adrenal fatigue, in which the adrenal is depleted rather than diseased (as it is in Addison's disease), is not accepted by all physicians. It's ironic that virtually all government-funded chronic fatigue research these days routinely tests adrenal function and most use saliva testing like this.
Your adrenal glands function like one-day batteries, fully charged in the morning and emptying out as the day progresses. This test measures cortisol levels throughout a single day. You may note that your levels are fairly high in the morning and that they drop considerably by evening.
Among patients with adrenal exhaustion, the cortisol levels start low and become almost unmeasurable by evening. This test also measures levels of DHEA, a molecule that converts to a variety of other important hormones like cortisol, progesterone, and testosterone.
Contains: The test kit includes everything necessary to perform, process and mail to the laboratory.
